IfND ARE PROUD TO HAVE TWO WONDERFUL COUNCILLORS STANDING FOR THE NOTTINGHAMSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL ELECTIONS ON MAY 1ST 2025
PRESS RELEASE
Following their success in the District and Parish elections of 2023, The Independents for Newark & District (IfND) have announced the candidacies of Jean Hall and Susan Crosby for the upcoming Nottinghamshire County Council Elections on May 1st. Both candidates will be leveraging their experience and expertise, Jean Hall will be contesting the Balderton Division, while Susan Crosby will be standing in the Newark East Division.
Jean Hall, a lifelong Balderton resident, is dedicated to addressing community needs over party politics. As Vice- Chair of Balderton Parish Council, she has contributed to reducing anti-social behaviour through the Safer Streets initiative and supports community projects like the new Grow Balderton Community Allotment, on Lowfield Lane and ‘Mending lines’ youth initiative. As Chair of Newark and Sherwood District Council, she is keen to promote our stunning area and eco-friendly travel. She is currently fundraising for Newark Women's Aid, Notts Wildlife Trust and Nottinghamshire MIND, by cycling and walking around the district.
Jean is a larger-than-life character and appreciates that her collaborative approach, across a wide spectrum of interests, will benefit her at Nottinghamshire County Council. Focusing on issues such as potholes, safer roads, local healthcare provision, active travel routes, youth apprenticeships, flood management, and community support, she intends to once again, hit the ground running.
Susan Crosby is Portfolio holder for Health Wellbeing and Leisure at Newark and Sherwood District Council and also sits on Newark Town Council representing Beacon ward. Susan believes that adversarial party politics are an obstacle to the best decisions being made for residents. Being able to vote according to her conscience as an Independent, Susan maintains better decisions can be reached for the needs of residents.
She has much experience in volunteering for local medical institutions such as Beaumond House, Lombard Medical Centre and being a patient representative on the Clinical Commissioning Group committee.
Susan has stated “We want to feel safe on our streets and in our homes, and the needs of the elderly and disabled must be better served. Our young people also need the best opportunities to thrive in our town. We want a clean, well-maintained place to call home, with great local shops and amenities for us all. We're also in dire need of improved local medical services and advocates for a 24/7 Urgent Treatment centre. I feel passionate about playing a positive role in achieving these aspirations for Newark and Balderton”.
She acknowledged that many ordinary people are doing outstanding community work to help those in need and keep our neighbourhoods united. This spirit needs better representation, the introduction of fresh faces and new voices will greatly benefit us all.
